The Choir of our Congregation
@

It is pointed out in First Chronicle chapter 28 that choir was  established by God Himself. It is also described in chapter 25 that the particular choir system  was in  accordance to God's will. With God's grace the Chinese Congregation's choir continues to grow in the midst of learning and practice. It started with singing from one part  to the current four-part singing in harmony. Thanks to God that we have a group of choir members who are prepared to give their time and energy to sing; their voice being created by God to His praise.

From April 2007 we also began to have an 'English singing' choir. The aim was to encourage those brothers and sisters who were not too familiar with Chinese but could practise  and sing  in English to praise God.  Up to now, the English Choir has sung four times. The first was immediately after the formation of the Choir, followed by that at last Christmas, Easter and at the dedication service for the new church building. We hope that we could sing three to four times a year. Of course, in the coming days we seek to increase the number of hymn singing. Presently, the choir will sing on every first Sunday of the month. Apart from this, the choir has sometimes been invited to sing in other English speaking services of other churches, and on other occasions such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, fund-raising for the church redevelopment, and the Charles Wesley's 100th anniversary celebration.

The English Choir has its practice at 5:15 till 6:30 pm after the Holy Communion service on the first Sunday of a month. The Chinese Choir's practice takes place every Sunday between 5:15 and 6:30 pm.

In order to promote understanding of music of the choir members we held a Choir Workshop in March this year. We invited Miss Zhang Xiu Ying, a well qualified music tutor from Malaysia to provide training for us. We believe that all members in the choir have enjoyed the workshop and learned much from it. Our understanding in the principle of singing has increased and we have learnt how to use our breath to produce a more beautiful voice and melody. We hope that in future we could hold such training workshop every half yearly or yearly. Through every training endeavour it is hoped that each member of the choir would become more developed, offering the best of their voice and music to our great Creator, deepening their knowledge and understanding.

Because the songs sung by the choir carry the words of God's revelation the message of  praises carries God's inspiration and His manifestation. Choir singing is not a one-person task, but a collective ministry. However able a person is he can never sing both parts  simultaneously. Neither could he cover up the error of others' singing. We hope you will continue to pray for the choir, asking God to continue to use us. Let each one of us constantly learn and seek deeper spiritual growth. Let every choir practice be an opportunity for us to feel and enjoy God's presence, and witness that God is with us.
